Key Differences Between Individual and Group Therapy

Individual therapy and group therapy each offer distinct, evidence-based benefits in the field of counselling. Research consistently shows that individual therapy provides a private, personalized space where clients can explore sensitive issues at their own pace, develop self-awareness, and receive tailored interventions that directly address their unique challenges. It often leads to significant improvements in mood, coping strategies, goal setting and overall functioning.

On the other hand, group therapy offers a powerful sense of connection and shared experience, which can reduce feelings of isolation and normalize personal struggles. Studies have found that group settings foster interpersonal learning, empathy, and accountability, while also building social support networks. When used appropriately, both modalities can be equally effective, and many therapeutic programs integrate them to maximize outcomes depending on client needs and goals.

She is a clinical counsellor and art therapist with 22 years of experience, supporting healing through art. She uses creativity and mindfulness to guide self-discovery, resilience, and peace.  
Cancellation Policy
We kindly request that you notify us at least 48 hours in advance if you are unable to attend your scheduled therapy appointment. Failure to do so will result in a charge for the full session’s cost. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in respecting our cancellation policy, which helps us to provide the best possible care to all of our clients.

Individual Therapy

You can choose, or we can recommend a therapist, either in-person or online, that best fits an individual’s needs, personality, and culture based on their training or experience. The process involves one-on-one interaction between our qualified registered therapist and you or your loved one. The objective of this therapeutic modality is to provide a secure and supportive environment for the client to explore their thoughts, feelings, and actions, as well as to work through issues that may be causing distress or impeding their daily life.

Our therapists employ a range of therapeutic techniques and approaches tailored to each individual’s specific needs and preferences. Depending on the concern, these approaches can include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, EMDR, Mindfulness-based therapy, and other evidence-based interventions.

Group Therapy

Recent research and our experience emphasize the importance of group therapy in enhancing treatment outcomes through its ability to foster a sense of community support and shared understanding among participants. Group therapy has been shown to reduce feelings of isolation and stigma while also providing opportunities for peer support and encouragement.

Group therapy facilitates deeper insights, greater self-awareness, and more sustainable behavioural changes by creating a collaborative environment where individuals can explore their challenges together. Individuals can benefit from group sessions, as they can share and learn from others who have experienced similar types of challenges and experiences, which in turn create self-awareness and provide other perspectives.
