Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful therapeutic tool that a therapist named Dr. Francine Shapiro developed in the early 1990s to treat PTSD. EMDR is best known for its effectiveness in helping people who suffer from anxiety or distressing memories, nightmares, insomnia, abuse, or other traumatic events. Whether those traumas were large or small, EMDR quickly helps clients come to peace with what happened.

Research shows that eye movement somehow liberates the natural healing process to reverse such effects. It seems that eye movement stimulates the neurochemical communication between the two hemispheres of the brain, which results in the trauma no longer containing the negative emotional charge that was initially associated with it. Research on EMDR has been extensive and well-conducted; for Further Information about EMDR, please visit www.emdr.com
